Ski touring

2012

Ski touring is all about skiing off the pistes, and about exploring great regions in winter. Climbing up with skins under our skis gives us the opportunity to ski down beautiful mountains

Weather permitting, we can ski tour from the beginning of December through end of May, and even June in the high mountains: Mont Blanc, Vanoise, Walliser Alps...

Beginner course:

Level 1 : between 600 et 1000m climb each day,  slopes up to 30° max.  You should be able to ski everywhere on red pistes, and be able to control your skis in off piste conditions.

Advanced courses:

Level 2: Up to 1400m climb each day, slopes up to 35° on short sections, slopes at 40°  sometimes on a very short part, you should be able to ski on black slopes and to control your skis in every off piste conditions.

Level 3: Up to 1500m and more, up to 40° slopes on a long section, you should be able to turn rapidly in steep sections and to control your skis in difficult snows (crust, deep powder....) An experience in crampons and rope work is a plus!

Level 4: slopes over 40°, we have to go for a tour with you before to be sure you can do it!

What we do in those tours? Depending on the weather of course!

    1. 1.Avalanche awareness and basis in rescue training (avalanche beacon use)

    2. 2.Learn to make our own tracks and avalanche terrain reading

    3. 3.Steep skiing if you are interested and fit.

At the beginning of the ski season :we go for a pre ski touring training, getting fit again after the long season off skiing. So it is all about off piste skiing in a small resort, getting those old muscles working again in all kind of snow.

On weekdays : You are off work for one or more days around. Contact us and we will arrange day tours for you and your friends. It is best and easier to call us 3-4 days ahead and have a minimum of 3 persons together.

Prices: A full day with a guide is 280 Euros, whether you are 1 or 6 persons it is the same price.

If we go on a multiday tour, you will have to pay for huts, lifts or whatever there is outside the guide’s fee. (Typical hut is about 55 Euros a day with food a day per person)

Where can we go? Aravis (La Clusaz), Chablais, Bauges, Beaufortain, Tarentaise, Maurienne, Mont-blanc massif, swiss Alps (Zermatt and other places), Japan, Iceland, Canada.

As a rule, the guide decides whether it is possible and best to go depending on the snow conditions. Don’t be to attached to a place to ski, the best way to get the best snow is to follow the guide’s instinct and knowledge.
